2016-2017 Influenza Vaccine Strains released

WHO organizes an advisory group of experts to analyze influenza virus surveillance data generated by the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS), and issues recommendations on the composition of the influenza vaccines for the following influenza season. The following strains have been released so vaccine manufacturing will start according to these recommendations.

  • A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
  • A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus
  • B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus
  • B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus

We expect to have vaccines available by October 2016.
